A MOIST EASTERLY FLOW KEEPS THINGS A BIT UNSETTLED ON MONDAY... THE WEATHER HEATS UP BY MID-WEEK AS OUR WINDS SHIFT TO A MORE SOUTHERLY DIRECTION

High pressure off the New England coast is causing a light easterly wind flow off the water. This combined with a weak trough off the NC Coast will bring us slightly unsettled weather today (Monday). These conditions caused an overcast to hang tough all day on Sunday. Temperatures remained in the 70's which was a welcome break from the intense heat that has plagued our region for weeks. I actually was able to shut my air conditioner off and open my windows. I haven't been able to do that in a very long time. Will it rain a lot today? Forecasters don't believe it will. However, a shower cannot be ruled out at any time. Tuesday should be a warmer day as the wind direction is expected to have more a southerly component. Indications are that we will see more sunshine on Tuesday. This will be a result of the high off the New England coast building southward. Then, our weather starts to heat up on Wednesday and we should see a continuation of the heat and humidity through the end of the week. A shower or thunderstorm is possible each day. What about the tropics? The area in the East-Central Atlantic that forecasters are watching has a 90% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone according to the NHC. I'll have an update on Tuesday.
