FORECASTERS ARE PREDICTING THAT THE HEAT WILL RETURN... TROPICAL STORM COLIN DEVELOPS IN THE CENTRAL NORTH ATLANTIC

Today (Tuesday), we should see more sunshine as high pressure builds southward from off the coast of New England. The clockwise flow around the high will eventually produce a SW wind, which will pump up heat and humidity back into the Mid-Atlantic States. Enjoy today as it will soon become uncomfortable for many of us. I actually enjoyed the period of cloudy weather Sunday and Monday as it was a refreshing change from the heat that we've been experiencing the past several weeks. Yesterday a small area of showers delivered about 0.40 inches of rain to my Virginia Beach neighborhood. Forecasters don't think that we will see any organized rainfall today, but an isolated shower/storm cannot be ruled out. The peak of this next period of hot weather appears to be Thursday. Then, a cold front may approach the area as we head towards the weekend... Tropical Storm Colin has formed in the Central North Atlantic. The storm is weak now but it is expected to strengthen as it tracks to the W-NW. A slow turn to a more NW track is expected but stay tuned on this. There seems to be some model disagreement as to the storm's future track. This is a good time to dust off your hurricane tracking map and also to ensure that you have all the supplies needed should a storm hit this area. I'm not saying that this storm will hit the east coast, but early August is usually the time when the frequency of tropical cyclones increases. I'll have an update on Wednesday.
