WE GET A BREAK FROM THE HEAT FOR A FEW DAYS, BUT IT APPEARS THAT THE HEAT WILL BE BACK BY MID-WEEK... A SYSTEM IN THE CENTRAL NORTH ATLANTIC LOOKS LIK
We're getting a well deserved break from the intense heat and humidity but don't get too used to it. Another round of heat and humidity appears to be on its way. An onshore flow around a high pressure system off the coast will keep us cooler than we've been of late. Of course, with the onshore flow comes an increase in humidity since the water temperature is now reaching its annual maximum. An area of rain showers moved across the Mid-Atlantic states over night and I picked up around a quarter of an inch of rainfall. Cloudiness will be around today (Sunday) but it really shouldn't be a bad day at all. An isolated shower or two is also possible. This upcoming week will feature a slow but steady warming trend. By Wednesday, we will probably be back in the heat and humidity. There is an area of disturbed weather in the Central North Atlantic that bears watching as it may become the next tropical cyclone. Wakefield has mentioned in their latest update that July was the 4th hottest ever at the ORF reporting station. Note that Richmond had one of its driest Julys ever. That big storm on Thursday turned what was going to be a dry July total into a normal July total for rainfall at ORD. As noted earlier, some areas weren't that lucky, especially west of Hampton Roads. I'll have another update on Monday.
