We haven't had a day like this in quite a while. Sunday started out with light rain and it just stayed overcast and drizzly all day. Temperatures were held down due to the cloud cover. I'm enjoying not having my air conditioner running and having the windows open. As expected, rainfall wasn't excessive. So far, about a third of an inch fell in my backyard. In some parts of Virginia, the rainfall was much needed as some areas are experiencing a drought. So far, the drought has hurt farmers more than it's affected the water supplies. Monday should be much nicer with sunshine and warmer temperatures. Forecasters are predicting dry weather for much of the week with the first chance of any rain coming late in the week at the earliest.... Meanwhile, Hurricane Igor is moving westward in the Central North Atlantic with sustained winds of 140 MPH. The forecast track takes the storm westward with a gradual turn to the northwest. Will it impact the East Coast of the U.S. or Bermuda? The thinking right now is that it will not impact the East Coast directly. However, it is very early and this is highly dependent on whether it finds a weakness in the high pressure ridge that it steering it westward. Bermuda should monitor this storm very closely. Will it be just a "fish" storm or will it somehow come further west and impact the East Coast. I think that by Tuesday or Wednesday, forecasters will have a better idea of what will happen. The trend has been further west with Igor's forecast track, so I highly recommend that you monitor this storm. There is another suspicious area in the Caribbean and in the Eastern North Atlantic, TD 12 has developed.
