HURRICANE DOLLY SLAMS THE SOUTH TEXAS COAST… HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS AFFECT HAMPTON ROADS LATE WEDNESDAY
Hurricane Dolly intensified into a category two storm just before making landfall in Southern Texas bringing sustained winds of 100 MPH and flooding rains. The slow movement of the storm is causing flooding concerns throughout the area. Meanwhile, back at home, a trough moving through the eastern states has caused numerous thunderstorms to develop Wednesday afternoon and evening. Frequent, intense lightning and flooding rains were the primary threats. At the time of this writing, about two inches of rain has fallen in my backyard and there could be more to come according to forecasters. This should help to douse the fire that has plagued Hampton Roads and NE NC with smoke since late spring. The trough should keep things a bit unsettled on Thursday with conditions slowly improving later in the week. Another system may bring unsettled conditions over the weekend.
