A SLOW MOVING FRONTAL BOUNDARY BRINGS UNSETTLED WEATHER TO HAMPTON ROADS... FRIDAY LOOKS NICE AND A DECENT WEEKEND SEEMS LIKELY
A very slow moving cold front brought showers and thunderstorms to Hampton Roads on Wednesday. My Virginia Beach neighborhood picked up 1.20 inches of rain. The lightning was quite intense and I've seen a report that one home was struck, which resulted in a fire. The front is currenly stalling just south of here and a disturbance is expected to move eastward across the area later today. This may cause additional showers/thunderstorms later today, but the coverage is uncertain at this time. The further south and east you are, the better the chance of rain. The front should drop further south on Friday which should bring more sunshine to the area. Temperatures shouldn't be too bad on Friday, but due to more sunshine, it should be warmer than Thursday. The weekend looks okay but there may be shower later on Sunday. Showers and storms seem possible early next week. The tropics are quiet for now, but forecasters believe that this is going to change very soon. The Cape Verde season is expected to begin in earnest, which could bring a long tracked tropical cyclone across the North Atlantic Ocean. We'll see if that pans out. I will have an update on Friday.
