THE STORM PULLS AWAY BUT COLD AIR MOVES IN ITS WAKE... ANOTHER LOW PRESSURE AREA APPROACHES ON TUESDAY BRINGING A CHANCE OF RAIN OR SHOWERS

The intense storm system that brought up to 40 inches of snow to parts of Maryland has moved out to sea. My VA Beach neighborhood picked up about an inch of snow on Saturday. The NNW flow behind the low pressure area will keep us on the chilly side on Sunday, but there will be some sunshine. I would stay off the roads if you can until the afternoon as there is plenty of ice and packed snow on some of the roadways. Although temperatures will probably not rise much above freezing, the sun should melt some of the ice on the roads. Areas in the shade will remain frozen throughout Sunday. Monday will be dry but already another low pressure area will be approaching from the west. This system seems to be tracking a bit further north than its predecessor so rain (not snow) seems likely on Tuesday here in Hampton Roads. Further north, another snow event is likely and believe me, they don't need it. The weekend storm brought incredible snow amounts to many regions of the northern Mid-Atlantic States. Philadelphia had 27 inches of snow, which makes this storm their second highest snowfall in recorded history. NYC had less than in inch of snow while the Jersey Shore got slammed with blizzard conditions. There was a sharp cut-off to the snow accumulation up there. Washington DC will be digging out for days as will many of the communities in the region. DC had about 20 inches. The stormy weather pattern should continue throughout most of February. California has been dealing with mudslides due to heavy rain hitting areas that were affected by the fires last year.
