A COLD FRONT IS GOING TO MOVE THROUGH HAMPTON ROADS ON SUNDAY ACCOMPANIED BY SHOWERS AND SOME THUNDERSTORMS... HEAVY RAIN IS POSSIBLE
The cold front is moving a tad slower than expected, but it is still going to move through today (Sunday). Showers will overspread the area with some imbedded thunderstorms. Heavy rain is a definite possibility. Once the front passes your area, you'll notice an immediate drop in temperatures and a wind shift from the north. Winds will pick up behind the front and will be quite gusty. Boaters are encouraged to stay in port on Sunday. Since the front is moving a bit slower, rain chances will remain high through the evening hours across SE VA. Some areas could see more than an inch of rain. The rain should move out of the region by Monday morning and Monday is shaping up to be a very cool day for this time of year. Temperatures will slowly moderate as we head through the work week... Hurricane season begins on June 1st so you should start thinking about making sure that you are ready just in case a storm threatens our area. Speaking of hurricanes, some computer models actually want to develop a storm that could potentially impact the SE States and/or Gulf Coast next week. Sometimes stalled frontal boundaries spin up storms under ideal conditions. Odds are that even if a storm does develop, it will not be strong, but it is something to watch.
