The arctic air mass that has been talked about for well over a week is on our doorstep and should be here Thursday afternoon. Temperatures on Friday will be very cold for this time of year and it is expected that Friday night will be the coldest night in a couple of years across SE VA. Please take precautions with pipes that could freeze and burst. A weak low is expected to move to our south and east over the weekend. This system's track is questionable at this time and also the amount of moisture that it will have available. Although temperatures will be on the rebound on Sunday, temperatures could be cold enough to support snow, albeit light. So, stay tuned. This arctic air mass is the same one that brought the extremely frigid temperatures to Alaska and NW Canada last week. As the jet stream position shifted over the past few days, temperatures actually warmed in Alaska. Note that another system may approach the area on Tuesday. I'll have a full update on Saturday.
